In una piccola cittadina Olandese c’è chi vive producendo zoccoli in legno …Olandesi, ovviamente.

Voi, forse pensate che gli zoccoli Olandesi venivano portati in tempi remoti oppure, oggi , che vengano usati solo per le feste popolari o le manifestazioni storiche… NO!

Da Mr. Nuhof è come entrare in un negozio di scarpe con tutti i numeri di zoccoli, secondo il piede … se poi desiderate avere zoccoli speciali, basta dirlo!

 

Era il 29 Dicembre 2007 e mi trovavo in Olanda.

Ero atteso dal Sig. Nuhof, maestro costruttore di zoccoli …ed ecco la Sua casa, laboratorio…. il laboratorio del vero artigiano, sotto casa!

All’arrivo mi salutò cordialmente e mi fece notare subito gli zoccoli ai suoi piedi.

Mi portò nel suo laboratorio ed iniziò la dimostrazione di lavorazione degli zoccoli.

“Per prima cosa necessitano due pezzi di legni” mi disse.

Cominciò così a tagliare due tozzi legni con la sega a nastro.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Dopodiché mise i pezzi squadrati su di una macchina, fondamentalmente un tornio copiativo orizzontale, per una sgrossatura.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Terminata la lavorazione esterna, i pezzi sagomati vengono caricati sulla macchina per lo svuotamento interno che coincide con la sagoma del piede.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

E’ una lavorazione suggestiva, non si vede ovunque… solo in Olanda.

Mr. Nuhof mi spiega ora la prossima lavorazione di finitura.

Questa lavorazione viene eseguita con una levigatrice manuale.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

A lavoro ultimato, Mr. Nuhof mi sottopone il suo operato fatto con destrezza e precisione.

Nel magazzino si trovano tutte le misure di zoccoli secondo il numero del piede.

Si lasciano depositati in luogo asciutto per evitare deformazioni e spaccature del legno, per poi essere verniciati secondo il disegno ed i colori prescelti.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Ecco un paio di zoccoli Olandesi, pronti per essere indossati.

Dutch wooden clogs

In a small Dutch town, people make a living producing wooden clogs… Dutch of course.

You perhaps thought that Dutch clogs were worn long ago or, today, were used only for folk festivals or historic events…

NO!

At Mr. Nuhof’s premises, it’s like entering a shoe shop with every size clog depending on foot size… if you would like a pair of special clogs, you just have to tell him!

It was 29^th December 2007 and I was in the Netherlands.

Mr. Nuhof, master clog maker, was expecting me… and here is his house, workshop… the workshop of a true craftsman, beneath his home!

 When I arrived he greeted me warmly and drew my attention to the clogs on his feet.

He took me into his workshop and began to show me how clogs were made. “Firstly you need two pieces of wood,” he said. He then began to cut two wooden blocks with a band saw.

Afterwards he placed the square pieces on a machine, basically a horizontal copying lathe, for roughing.

Once the outside work was completed, the shaped pieces were loaded onto a machine to be hollowed out inside to follow the shape of the foot.

It’s an interesting process, one that is not seen everywhere… only in the Netherlands.

Mr. Nuhof then explained the next finishing process to me.

This process is carried out with a manual refining machine.

When the work was finished Mr. Nuhof showed me his painstaking work.

The warehouse stores all sizes of clogs according to foot size.

The clogs are placed in a dry place to prevent deformation and splitting occurring in the wood, and are then painted according to the selected design and colours.

Here is a pair of Dutch clogs, ready to be worn.
